Close Enough to be Far Away
Kino Bay is approximately 100 kilometers (60 miles) from the capital city of Sonora, Hermosillo. Hermosillo has great recreational entertainment potential to attract foreign tourists and visitors including a zoo, Zaragoza square, University of Sonora, 4 movie theaters and many more exciting destinations. Outside of the bright and busy pulse of Hermosillo (11 kilometers north) people may travel to see the beautiful countryside of San Pedro. South of the city is La Pintada, a place of great history, artistry, and outdoor sports.

Across Kino bay coast is Tiburon Island. Characterized by exotic and hypnotizing beauty, it is the largest island of Mexico. Tiburon Island is so special to this area that is has been proclaimed an ecological preserve. The considerable number of flora and fauna species that thrive there are indigenous to the region and make it as unique as the Bay itself.

Other islands surrounding Kino Bay include the famous Alcatraz, San Lorenzo, San Esteban, and Cholludo. If one looks hard enough, it is possible to find colonies of sea lions, unique to the Gulf of California, bathing in the tropical sunlight.

Today, Kino Bay has over 600 houses built on the beautiful beach. About 65% of them belong to people from Canada and the United States. It’s obvious that this land value is too high to keep a secret; although, that’s what the people of Sonora have done, thankfully, to preserve the natural beauty of this potentially thriving development area.

The native culture of Sonora is also important economically as the music style is especially appealing to tourists. Residents of Los Angeles, CA, Phoenix, AZ, Tucson, AZ, Nogales, Son, Guaymas, Son, and Tijuana may easily visit this area. In fact, the major international airport of Hermosillo makes 40,000 flights annually to more than 1,250,000 passengers to and from this region.
